Bye Laws: Oshimili North Intensities Efforts To Generating More Revenue

A public hearing on bye laws seeking to generate revenues for Oshimili North Local Government council has been held.

The hearing which was organised by the committees on Finance and Appropriation and Community Development was attended by the various stakeholders from communities in Oshimili North Local Government Area.

Speaking on behalf of the chairman, committee on Finance and Appropriation and councillor representing ward 9 Okpanam , Hon. Nkem Nwankwo, the councillor representing ward 7, Barr.( Mrs.) Stellamaris Medulu said that the public had been adequately sensitised on the hearing .

Barr.(Mrs.) Medulu , who said that the initiative was to deliberate on items and penalties enshrined in the bye law , urged the stakeholders to make useful inputs.

According to the bye law any person errecting a building and engaging in business activities in all the communities within the council areas would pay certain amount of levy to the council.

She further listed those the bye law would affect to include landed property developers, private school owners, pharmacy/chemist shops and mechanical /auto electricians, spray painters shop , companies/ factories, telecommunications company and interlocking as well as cement retail shops.

Barr.(Mrs.) Medulu also said that tailoring and designed shops , provision stores, building materials shop , barbing / hairdressers and restaurants /eateries as well as billboard and sign board owners among others would pay the stipulated fees.

In an interview with newsmen, one of the councillors representing Okpanam ward 9 , Hon. Barry Ezuche Okonkwo and the councillor representing Ibusa , Hon. Hilary Ifechukwude Okobi said that the initiative was a welcome development.

The duo noted that with the enforcement of.the bye law the council would be able to ensure more socioeconomic development of the various communities within Oshimili North.
