Ogedegbe Promises Transparency, Reforms In Ethiope East Revenue System

Chairman of Ethiope East Local Government Area in Delta State, Chief Austin Ogedebe, has pledged to reform the council’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) system in order to improve development in the area.

Speaking during a visit by the Publisher of Oasis Magazine, Daniel Umukoro, Ogedegbe admitted that progress in revenue generation has been slow, but assured that his administration is taking steps to improve the system.

He identified the transport sector, tower lines, and the oil industry as major areas where the council will focus on to increase its revenue base.

Unlike in the past when funds could easily be diverted, Ogedegbe explained that all IGR payments are now made directly into the council’s account. This, he said, is to ensure accountability and give residents confidence that their money is being properly used.

“This is to make sure that every kobo is accounted for and the people benefit directly from their resources,” he said.

The chairman stressed that revenue reforms are very important because they will help the council provide better services in education, security, and road construction.

According to him, money from IGR should no longer disappear without a trace but must be used for visible projects that touch the lives of the people.

He assured that his administration is committed to cutting out leakages in the system and building a culture of openness.

“The era of waste is over. The funds that belong to the people must serve the people,” Ogedebe emphasized.

Umukoro, who was accompanied by Comrade Felix Okotie, Vice Chairman, Oasis Magazine Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists and Comrade Kevwe Etadafe, welcomed the decision, describing it as a bold step that will rebuild public trust and help the local government achieve real development.
