Delta Reaffirms Partnership With NGOs For Effective Development

Delta State Government has urged women involved in the management of Non governmental organisations NGOs to work for the development of the state and the country in general.

The Permanent Secretary, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Sam Diateke, stated this at a capacity building workshop for women in NGOs management in accessing international funds.

The workshop which held on Friday at Swiss Spirit Hotel, Asaba was organised by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Works.

Mr Diatake reaffirmed the state government’s commitment in partnering with credible NGOs for an all-round development of the state.

He advised the management of NGOs to add values to the communities they operate in.

He charged them to characterise their activities with creativity to ensure a better society and attract the relevant funding.

“It is my contention that once you are able to key into this management model, attracting the relevant funding will not be too difficult,” he said.

Earlier, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Works, Mrs Pally Eghove, said the workshop was aimed at training the women on how to successfully manage their NGOs.

She noted that most NGOs are funded by International grants, aids and foreign funds for development activities which are competitive to access hence the need for competence in managing the NGOs.

Mrs Eghove commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for approving the workshop to contribute to the success of the Stronger Delta vision of the state government.

“Most NGOs are funded by international grants aids and accessing foreign funds for development activities usually very competitive and therefore the need for competence in proposal writing, budgeting implementation, retirement, etc cannot be overemphasised,”

Some of the participants commended Governor Okowa for working to improve the economic well being of women and promised to use the knowledge gained for the development of the state.

The workshop featured papers presentation on how women in NGO management can access international funds.
