School Fees Hike By State Owned Universities In Delta, Reckless, Insensitive, Says NANS

National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS Zone B) Southeast and Southsouth, has described the hike in school fees by state owned tertiary institutions in Delta as reckless and insensitive, issuing a 48-hour ultimatum to the managements of such universities to reverse the move.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Deputy Coordinator of the association, Comrade Dio, Oghale Emeka Rex.

According to the statement, the press release by NANS became necessary to avoid outright anarchy, breakdown of law and order in the affected campuses and eruption of marathon protests in the state.

Continuing, he said that the “action by the respective managements is to say the least reprehensible, callous, insensitive and repugnant to natural justice.”

He thus called on the Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro to suspend the move to implement the new school fees, saying that it should be reviewed downward to an amount not more N70, 000.

Speaking further, he called on the management of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, to shelve the increment in fees and reverse it to status quo with immediate effect.

NANS also warned any other state owned institution planning any hike in school fees to jettison the move, saying that failure to do this “would be met with an unimaginable resistance and uprising.”

To the governor of the state, the students’ association urged Senator Ifeanyi Okowa to use his good office to lesson the burden of parents who are supposed to be beneficiaries of his ‘Prosperity for all Deltans’ agenda.
