Rain of endorsements and adoption as most preferred governorship candidate in support of the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, got a major boost on Sunday 27th March, as political leaders of Delta South Senatorial District declared their massive support for his candidacy.

In the same vein, members of a highly influential political pressure group in Aniocha North Local Government Area of the State, Uche Bulu Ofu, met on Sunday at the Issele-Azagba Civic Center to unanimously adopt Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, JP, as her preferred governorship candidate.

UBO, as it is popularly known, parades heavy weight political actors, past and serving representatives and political appointees.

The leaders of PDP Delta South assembled at the conference hall of Peemos Hotel, Warri on Sunday and resolved to give their unalloyed grassroots mobilisation support, as well as influence party delegates in the district to vote enmass for Speaker Oborevwori at the party primaries scheduled to hold in May, this year.

The motion adopting Oborevwori as the district’s consensus governorship candidate was moved by the incumbent Secretary of Delta State Internal Revenue Service, Chief Barr Mike Edegeare and was ably seconded by Chairman of Council, Warri North Local Government, Hon Smart Yomi Asekutu, while the voting process and procedures was conducted by the Majority Leader of Delta State House of Assembly, DTHA, Chief Hon Ferguson Onwo.

PDP Leaders in Delta South Senatorial District present and who also supported the motion include; DTHA Majority Leader, Hon Ferguson Onwo, Chief Joseph Otumara, Chief Otimeyi Adams, Chief Solomon Arenyinka, Commander PY Biakpara (Rtd), General Broderick Demeiyeibo (Rtd), Traditional Prime Minister of Tuomo Kingdom, High Chief Barr Mike Loyiobe, Chief Femi Okumagba, Chief Goddy Onotor, Sir Simeon Efenudu, Chief Joe Arase, Hon Godknows Angele, Dcn Mrs Grace Ikanone, and others two numerous to mention here.

The leaders of Delta South said, of all the governorship aspirants, Speaker Oborevwori sounds real, convincing, reliable, detribalised, focused and should be trusted by Deltans, pointing out that his track records in the part five years as Speaker of the State House of Assembly gave him out as a visible unifier who will do more for the advancement of the state’s socioeconomic and infrastructure development.

“We the leaders of Delta South Senatorial District represented here by eminent Isoko, Ijaw and Itsekiri political leaders have resolved to give our total and unalloyed support towards the candidacy and landslide victory of Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, JP both at the party primaries and Governor ship election in 2023.

“It is therefore our collective responsibility as leaders of this political district and power block to transmit this resolution of adoption of Mr Speaker as our consensus governorship candidate to our people at the local governments and ward levels.

“We sort their permission to convene this meeting for the purpose of endorsing Mr Speaker, and we shall likewise inform them that we have done the needed as directed. We shall leave no stone unturned to ensure that he comes top at the primaries.

“We are not interested in lorry load of academic qualifications and all kinds of experience that will at the end of the day bring little or no dividends of democracy to our people. We want practical development and economic prosperity for Deltans, not academic theories and big grammar. Speaker Oborevwori is our choice.

“Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori’s academic and work experience profile as the longest serving Speaker since the creation of Delta state, is sufficient and satisfactory. We are confident that he will deliver on his promises as encapsulated in his MORE agenda.

“Our indefatigable party leader and governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, has taken the state to an enviable height and we are convinced beyond doubts that Oborevwori will sustain the temple and do more for the state and Deltans,” the leaders said.

The Aniocha North group, Uche Bulu Ofu, said Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has been around the political radar since 1999 till date, and have been a key player in the system and in the scheme of things haven served in various capacities in previous administrations before his elevation to the enviable number three position in the state through Democratic process.

“We have followed Mr Speaker’s commitments to duty and reasonable response to social engagements unlike some aspirants who are now attending social functions because they want to be governor of Delta State. Things don’t work that way. We know the pretenders. Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori is real, he is a good man.

“We have also seen with our eyes Mr Speaker’s great philanthropic endeavours through his foundation and all the huge financial assistance he rendered to indigent students in time past and the numerous people he took from the streets and made them bread winners and employers of labour.

“We have notice similarities between him and our amiable governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, in terms of humility, respect for constituted authorities and leaders of our great party, PDP.

“We have also noticed his genuine passion for the development and socioeconomic advancements of the state and people. Uche Bulu Ofu, a support group of PDP, came to the conclusion that the best man to succeed Gov Okowa, is Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.

“Therefore, from this day 27th March, 2022 and going forward, we shall mobilize massively for Mr Speaker in Aniocha North Local Government Area, and that include ensuring that our delegates vote enmass for Oborevwori at the party primaries to hold in may, this year,” the group assured.

It is hoped that in the coming days and weeks, more groups and political structures will align with the candidacy of Speaker Oborevwori, judging from his soaring popularity and acceptance across the three Senatorial districts; North, South and Central of the state.
