Dino Melaye, the spokesperson for the Atiku presidential campaign, has warned PDP Governors against any attempts to oust party National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu.

Melaye claims that Ayu’s introduction and selection as the PDP’s national chairman came from the governors of the party.

He questioned why the Governors, who had backed Ayu in December 2021, were now outspokenly demanding his ouster.

Before choosing Ayu, the former legislator for Kogi West senatorial district questioned whether the governor had forgotten that he was from the North.

Iyorchia Ayu was introduced to and chosen by the PDP Governors, Malaye said in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune this past weekend.

He said: “You cannot give birth to a child in the morning then return to disavow the child in the afternoon; otherwise, you would not make a decent parent. Ayu was the unanimous choice because the governors, not we, made the decision. During the convention, did they field someone to face off against Ayu from the South? On the day of the convention, everyone supported Ayu, even Governor Wike.

“They not only supported Ayu, but they also provided funding for that gathering.

“How then can you give us a product in December and then want it to go in June or July?

“When they introduced Ayu as a consensus candidate, that was the only position that did not face a challenge on the convention day and that had the support of all the Governors, whether from the North or the South.

“Did they forget that Ayu was a Northerner when they fielded him? Or did they simply discover all of a sudden that Ayu is from the North?

“Furthermore, you cannot discuss Ayu departing while we have not even won the presidential election. Is the horse coming before the cart or the other way around?”
