Delta State Among Top States In Nigeria For Pension Remittance, PENCOM Report Says
The National Pension Commission (PENCOM) has announced that Delta State, under the leadership of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, is among the top states in the nation that remitted employees’ and employers’ pensions in 2022.
In a recent report assessing the status of implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) in states across Nigeria as of December 21, 2022, PENCOM revealed that Delta State has been successful in implementing the law on the CPS and has established two pension bureaus at the state and local government levels to ensure speedy administration of pension payments.
The report also confirms that the state has registered employees under the Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), remitted 10% for employers and 7.5% for employee pension contributions for employees of the local and state governments, and opened retirement benefits bonds redemption funds with the Central Bank of Nigeria.
This report by the body established by law to regulate, supervise and ensure the effective administration of pension matters in Nigeria has finally ended the propaganda campaign by opposition elements during the 2023 general election that claimed Okowa’s administration did not pay its pensioners. The disclosure by PENCOM underscores the state government’s commitment to pensioners’ welfare and its adherence to the CPS, which ensures that employees receive their retirement benefits when due.
