You Are A Foremost Civil Society Ally, Citizens’ Soldier, Servant Leader, Rex Anighoro Tells Ovie Agas
The Chief of Staff to the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Festus Ovie Agas has played host to the Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Civic Engagement and Civil Society, Activist Rex Emojite Anighoro and the Delta State Civil Society Community at his official residence.
It was an evening of tributes as the Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Civic Engagement and Civil Society and the Civil Society Community paid a “Thank You” visit on him in appreciation of his immense contributions to advancing Good Governance, Leadership and Democratic Values in the State and for being a dependable ally of the Civil Society Community.
Speaking at the thank you get together, Activist Rex Anighoro stated that the former Deputy Speaker of the State’s House of Assembly, the former Secretary to the Delta State Government and former Chief Strategist of the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Festus Ovie Agas is a foremost Civil Society ally, Citizens Soldier, servant leader and a fiercely loyal lieutenant of His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa.
He stated that the Chief of Staff is a highly significant and pivotal officer of Government, an eminent Deltan of uncommon governance and leadership experience who was ever committed to ensuring that the maxim ‘the office of the citizens is supreme’ was never a mere sloganism.
Activist Anighoro further avowed that Rt. Hon. Festus Ovie Agas Esq. as an astute administrator and strategist, has contributed to strengthening Citizens Engagement and Open Government Partnership, working with other leaders to ensure that the sovereign will of the people is the sole determinant that drives Government Policies, Programs and Projects, making sacrifices for the common cause and for the development of the State.
Activist Rex Anighoro who is the focal civil society appointee of the Delta State Government, expressed gratitude to the Chief of Staff for his consistent support to his Office as the Senior Special Assistant on Civic Engagement and Civil Society as well as to the larger Civil Society as the watchdog of Society.
He asserted that his office remains committed to bridging the gap between Government and the Civil Society, ensuring that the Civil Society work together with the Government for the good of the people and for sustainable development.
“Activism is not antagonism, Government is not an enemy of the people nor is the Civil Society an opposition party, for collaboration is better than confrontation,” he stated.

Also speaking at the get together, Activist Ambrose Egbe, General Secretary of the Delta State Civil Society Community commended the Ughelli born lawyer for using his governance and leadership experience to help make the difference in government, he noted that Delta State is one of the few states that pays pensioners regularly, that have signed on to the Open Government Partnership, that have signed into law the Freedom of Information Act, that have a Procurement Law and a Procurement Council with a Civil Society Representation and more.
He stated that the Civil Society and Deltans must be grateful to God and be proud to have as their own a man of his experience and leadership pedigree.
In response, Rt. Hon. Festus Ovie Agas Esq. eulogized Activist Rex Anighoro for assiduously committing to ensure a better working partnership between Government and the Civil Society.
He said that the government and the Civil Society needs to partner more to bring development and make life more abundant for the people.
He admonished the Delta State Civil Society Community to remain steadfast and should always engage with the Government on issues constructively.
He urged the Delta State Civil Society Community to work in harmony, engage more with the citizens to be able to collectively represent their interest at all times.
