Agbu Kefas Takes Over As New Governor Of Taraba State

Retired Lieut. Col. Dantala Agbu Kefas has been sworn in as the new Executive Governor of Taraba State.

In a colouful ceremony at the Jolly Nyame Stadium Jalingo the swearing in was performed by the Taraba State Chief Judge Justice Joel F. Agya before a mamoth croud of esteemed dignitories including an elder Stateman indigene of the State General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma and the first
civilian Governor of the State Reverend Jolly Tavoro Nyame, traditional rulers, captains of industries and other dignitries whitin and outside the Country.

Shortly after the swearing in the outgiong Governor Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku officially handed over the mantle of Leadership of the State to the new Governor after which the new Governor inspected a guard of honour mounted by a detatchment of the Nigeria Police and other Security Agencies and took salute.

Addressing the people of the State Retd Col. Agbu Kefas described the occassion ss a day of celebration for the State while walking through the future with hope and begining a new chapter.

“I feel happy by the trust the people placed in me for coming out en mass to vote for me which has been made possible through the Almighty God and the Support of the of
people of the State”.

Agbu Kefas noted that no success will be achieved without the counsel, support and mentorship of many people and specifically acknowledged General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma who he described as not just a dear father but a role model and hope that the General will keep his doors open to the new administration as the success of the Government will be guided by his wisdom.

The Governor explained that the path which brought him into the new office was full of torns but the people of the State have given him the mandate to deliver.

“I stake my commitment to you and I urged us all to put our differences aside and come together to move the State forward, after all the art of Governance cannot be possible without the support of all the people I will engage the people from all walks of life, our duty demands that we should be transparent in all our policies, programmes, and services to ensure that we remain responsive to all my administration is open to all of you I will always welcome constructive criticisms”.

He said his Government will work with Civil Societies and Development Partners to develop a platform for a purely beneficial relationship based on trust and purely on knowledge that will enhance the quality of the people of the State.

According to him, “My passion for Taraba State is driven by deep commitment to Social Justice and rule of Law and as such all my key priority is to address specifically the problems of the youths, women and people living with disability my administration will focus on addressing unemployment and marginalization to create an enabling environment for the people to prosper and for the overall empowerment of our people”.

The new Governor said he will use every tool at his disposal to secure a good future for the next generation in finding new skills and technical training and by creating job opportunities saying that Taraba State has a lot to offer to all promising to work with the different Communities as success will only be achieved when all hands are on deck.

He said priority will be giving to basic health care delivery particularly in relation to mental health and education as well as insecurity which is one of the major challenges bedeviling the State will be the major focus of his Government is to maintain security and to protect citizens from internal and external aggression with equitable distribution of resources to improve the living conditions of the people.

“Without security all our activities are undermined we will work with
Local and Federal security engage relevant stakeholders, Civil Societies, Community Leaders, Security experts to review the Security architecture of the State to make history we need to atay unified, peaceful and determined”.

He called on Tarabans to depart from the routine and do things differently.

“We need to embrace energetic young men and women of this State we need to call on the experience of all communities to takle all the challenges of the State we need your support, we will use the most qualified people to serve in my Government I am an optimist and committed”.

Agbu Kefas expressed gratitude to the former Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku and his team for the work they have done in the last eight years and wished him the best in his future endeavours and thanked his parents for shaping him into what he is today his wife, children and siblings for their patience, love, support and encouragement.
