Commissioner For Environment Reads Riot Act To Waste Managers In Delta
… To Audit Operations Of PSPs
Earlier today, the Honourable commissioner for environment Mr Jamani Tommy Ejiro met with the Association of Waste Managers in Delta State under the PSPs arrangement.
The meeting which was at the instance of the commissioner was to ascertain the reason for the delay in the removal of waste from homes and business premises.
While addressing the waste managers, Mr Jamani lamented the alarming rate of indiscriminate waste disposal along major raids in the state capital and lackadaisical approach employed by the waste managers in the handling waste removal.
In response to the challenges highlighted by the Association, the Honourable commissioner promised to look into the matter that was mentioned and ensure they are tackled to improve service delivery, noting that the new administration under the leadership of His Excellency Rt Hon Sheriff F.O Oborevwori is committed to meeting all its obligations to the private sector participant in ensuring that Delta state attains the cleanest state in Nigeria.
He however stated that he will be setting up an Audit committee headed by a civil society person and members of his ministry to review the activities of the waste managers and any operator found wanted will the blacklisted and replaced.
Meanwhile, the Honourable commissioner declared that he will be visiting the dump sites in the pilot cities to see things for himself.
