Ogbeifo Petitions Trustfund Microfinance Bank Over Alleged Defamation, Demands N100 Million

A Warri based Lawyer, Shadrack OGBEIFO, Esq. has Petitioned Trustfund Microfinance Bank in Benin City over defamatory, malicious and libelous Credit Report-CRC Credit Bureau Limited by the Bank indicting the lawyer with a false, defamatory, malicious, libelous and vexatious report bearing the name, date of birth, phone number, house address and Bank Verification Number details claiming that the lawyer is encumbered with a non performing facility with the bank to the tune of Eight Million , Eight Hundred and Twelve Thousand, Nine Hundred and Ninety Six Naira (N8,812, 996) only.

Mr OGBEIFO through his lawyer, Helen EGBODJE, said the Defamatory, Malicious,and Libelous Credit Report -CRC Credit Bureau Limited Publication on him is malicious , libelous and defamatory.

The lawyer demanded a retraction of the report, an apology as well as N100 Million compensations from the Benin City based Trustfund Microfinance Bank over the alleged defamatory, malicious and libelous credit report on him.

This was contained in a letter titled : ‘ Defamatory, Malicious and Libelous Credit Report – CRC Credit Bureau Limited On Mr Shedrack Ogbeifo dated 17th August 2023 made available to newsmen.

The letter stated among other things that, Mr Ogbeifo approached his bank, Sterling Bank Plc for a credit facility and that in order to ascertain Mr Ogbeifo ‘ s financial footing, Sterling Bank Plc requested a credit report on him from Credit Bureau Limited .

The letter alleged that Trustfund Microfinance Bank , Benin City to the dismay of Mr Ogbeifo indicted him with a false , defamatory, malicious and vexatious report , claiming that he was encumbered with a pending non performance facility with the said microfinance bank to the tune of eight million, eight hundred and twelve thousand, nine hundred and ninety- six naira.

Mr Ogbeifo in the letter denied having any financial dealing with Trustfund Microfinance Bank and that he does not know of the microfinance bank’s existence .

However in a recorded telephone conversation, an official of the microfinance bank, stated that the issue was not caused by their bank as he alleged that the issue was from Sterling Bank Plc.

The Trustfund Microfinance Bank official who did not mention his name, even queried the interest of the press on the matter.
