..As Election Committee Releases Cleared Aspirants
By Daniel Dafe
THE Screening Committee of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) for the 2023 Youth Wing Election headed by Rev Fr Christopher Ekabo, JP, has said that the election scheduled to hold on Saturday, will go on as planned.
Recall that one Ochuko Okagbare from Ewu-Urhobo kingdom approached a court in Warri to suspend the election, saying they were excluded from the process.
Unperturbed by this move, UPU on Friday approached the Court of Appeal in Asaba to appeal the ruling.
According to UPU, the trial judge in Warri erred in granting the interim injunction, giving reasons why the restraining order should be vacated.
UPU said the socio-cultural body was never served the ruling, adding that Okagbare lacks the locus standi to have instituted the suit since he is not the Kingdom’s traditional ruler, spokesman, President General or youth leader.
