My First Task Is To Unite Ethiope East LGA If Elected –Ogedegbe
By Daniel Dafe
The chairmanship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ethiope East Local Government Area, Hon Chief Augustine Ogedegbe JP, has said that his first priority if elected to pilot the affairs of the local government will be to promote and restore unity in the area.
Speaking to Oasis Magazine in an exclusive chat, he said: “By the grace of God, I have emerged as the consensus candidate of PDP and according to Gods plan, the election will come and I will win and be sworn-in as the chairman and if I am sworn-in as the chairman, my target first is unity. It is for me to see how I can bring all the leaders together to have a very strong unity amongst us because it is only in unity that we can work together and deliver the dividends of democracy in this local government.”
He continued: “Very strongly, unity is my first priority and bringing all the leaders together. Let everybody know that we have Agbon, we have Abraka in Ethiope East and I want to let leaders and every man and woman in Ethiope East know that these things are not by mistake. God that brought the Abraka and Agbon people together in one local government actually did it for a purpose and we should not say that these are not my people and these are my people. Everyone must see us as one in as much as God has put us together as one and with this unity, I think we would do better and other good things will come to the local government.”

Asked what else residents in the local government should expect if voted in, he said: “A lot; every other thing that they need to benefit in the local government will surely follow if that unity is there. The women are going to be empowered. We are going to look at issues of insecurity working with the state. Most of our farmers are complaining of not even having the opportunity to go to farm and agriculture is very key to this nation right now and if we have people who cannot go to farm and insecurity in the area, these will hit on us. It is going to be very bad because these people we can’t feed them because they have one way or the other of growing their crops and other things that they sell and they also use in their homes. So, we are going to look into the issue of security to make sure that people will be free to go to their farms and have their cassava and whatever. We also will make sure that we bring development to the council headquarters and make it become a modern council. If you look at the council today, you pass it is like nothing is happening there. So, we will look into all these. There are other things that will follow but I believe that it is with unity that we can achieve all of them.”
Meanwhile, responding to the question of opposition in the area, he said: “I’m not threatened at all; not at all. I have passed message to all other political parties that it is not easy to go anymore to contest as council chairman, knowing full well that Augustine Ogedegbe is the one PDP has chosen. They know PDP has chosen the best candidate in Ethiope East. I am very sure and optimistic that so many other parties will have no choice than to join my people and work to deliver me.”
