Yuletide: Ogedegbe Bans Use, Sale Of Knockouts, Others In Ethiope East LGA

The Executive Chairman of Ethiope East Local Government; Hon. (Chief) Augustine Usinefe Ogedegbe (JP) has placed a ban on the sales, distribution and shooting of fireworks popularly known as “knockout” and “bangers” across the Local Government Area.

This was contained in a statement on Wednesday signed by Hon. Ebojoh Ojeh Francis, Secretary to the Local Government

According to the statement, “the ban is primarily a security and safety measures to protect lives and property.”

Continuing, he said the ban will prevent crime which criminally minded persons can take advantage of the season” and the noise of fireworks to create panic and perpetrate crimes like armed robbery and kidnapping.

He added: “The ban aims to prevent injuries, fire incidents, and other avoidable accidents that often occur with the improper use these explosive devices.”

Furthermore, he said the ban will result in public peace by “ensuring a peaceful environment for all indigenes and residents of the Local Government.”

“Parents and guardians are urged to caution their children and wards against the use of these items as violator will be dealt with according to the law.

“Moreover, distributors/retailers are warned to withdraw the products from display and sale as the law is no respecter of anyone.”

The statement urged residents to report any illegal sales or use of fireworks to the nearest Police Station to support the enforcement of this ban.

The Executive Chairman also wished everyone a happy Christmas and a prosperous New-year Celebration.
