Ukwuani Council To Relocate Butchers To Ultra-Modern Abattoir And Meat Market

In an effort to put the Obiaruku Ultra-Modern Abattoir and Meat Market to use, the Executive Chairman of Ukwuani Local Government, Hon (Barr) C.S Possible Ajede, has said all categories of butchers within the local government headquarters will soon be relocated to the abattoir.

The Council Chairman stated this during an enlarged meeting with butchers and meat sellers in his office, midweek.

During an interaction with the butchers, Barr Ajede noted that the abattoir was built to provide butchers of all categories-cow, pig, goat, and birds-a hygienic and safe environment to slaughter meat meant for consumption, and to ensure that the Ukwuani people consume meat/food that is free from contamination.

Speaking further, the #DoMoreAgenda torchbearer said the need to regulate how and where meats are butchered and sold to the Ukwuani people is paramount, considering the recent spread of diseases in different parts of the country. He emphasized that once the abattoir is in full use, it will help decongest the Obiaruku main market and further facilitate the development of the area.

Barr Ajede also assured the butchers that the Council will provide electricity and adequate security at the abattoir and along Amai Road to ensure their safety.

Earlier in their separate remarks, the butchers congratulated the Executive Chairman of the Council on his election victory, and applauded the initiative of the Council to build a modern and standard abattoir, which their Chairman, Pastor Nwodo Raphael, described as the standard for abattoirs across the state.

The group promised to move to the ultra-modern abattoir and meat market with all categories of butchers. However, they appealed to the Chairman to allow them a little time to make necessary plans before leaving their private slaughterhouses as the Council has directed.

Meanwhile, the butchers also appealed to the Council Chairman to accommodate them in his #DoMoreAgenda programs, adding that they need grants and loans from the government to boost their business.
