Previous Assignments Prepared Me For This Task –New DELSU PRO

The newly appointed Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Delta State University, Mr. Henry Eseka has promised to do his best as he pilots the Unit after he was given the said task by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Asagba, days after he assumed office.

He spoke to Oasis Magazine exclusively on Wednesday.

The new PRO emphasized the privilege of being entrusted with significant responsibilities overtime that culminated in his appointment as PRO.

“To God be the glory,” he remarked, expressing gratitude for his smooth transition into the role.

“This opportunity speaks to the trust placed in me by the administration, and I am committed to justifying it,” he said.

The new PRO outlined his plans to “hit the ground running,” prioritizing the repositioning of the PRO’s office to strengthen relationship with the press.

Describing the press as partners in progress, he hinted that drawing from his 16 years of experience working closely with the media, he pledged to enhance collaboration with journalists and media houses, safeguard the university’s image, and ensure proactive communication to prevent potential crises.

According to him, “Instead of repairing a battered image, it is better to ensure it does not happen.”

Adding: “My goal is to maintain a positive image for Delta State University at all times.”

Addressing potential concerns about overlap with the Directorate of Communication established by the immediate past VC, he assured a harmonious working relationship with the Directorate.

Continuing, he acknowledged the contributions made by his predecessor, Mrs NAD Aboribo and praised the Directorate’s leadership and emphasized that with mutual respect, shared goals and teamwork, they would add value to the new administration.

“Immediately after assuming the office, I made it a point to meet with the Director, Prof. (Mrs.) Enajite Ojaruega and her Deputy, Dr. Patrick Ijeh. Together, we have established a synergy that reflects our collective commitment to advancing the university’s reputation.”

Speaking on the direction of the new administration under Prof. Asagba, Mr. Eseka expressed confidence in the transformative leadership the new VC brings, just as he applauded the smooth transition from Prof. Andy Egwunyenga to his successor, describing Professor Asagba as a “detribalized leader” committed to building on the successes of his predecessor.

“The Vice-Chancellor’s appointments and inclusive vision demonstrate his dedication to progress. I urge the Delta State University community to extend the same cooperation and support that made Professor Egwunyenga’s tenure a success to the new VC.”

Asked about potential challenges in his new role, he acknowledged that the university community’s dynamic nature could present obstacles, but said he is prepared to tackle them while liaising with his boss, the Vice-Chancellor.

Furthermore, he called on the University Community to embrace the spirit of collaboration.

“Let us all rally behind the new administration. Together, we can ensure a seamless and successful tenure for Professor Asagba and uphold the university’s legacy of excellence,” he said.

Before this appointment, Eseka was the Principal Assistant Registrar (Vice-Chancellor’s Office) and also the Personal Assistant to the outgone Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga.
