Sowore Reacts, As Edo NYSC Punishes Corps Members With 90-Day Extension For Protesting Unpaid N77,000 Allowance

By Daniel Dafe
Popular Nigerian activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore has condemned the service year extension of over 30 corps members by 90 days without pay by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Recall that Edo State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Frances Ben-Ushie, announced the extension recently
The affected corps members, who completed their mandatory one-year service on March 17, 2025, were issued a “Notification of Extension of Service” instead of their NYSC Discharge Certificates.

Reports indicate that the extension serves as a penalty for their complaints about the non-payment of their N77,000 allowance, which they had shared in a WhatsApp group.
Reacting, Sowore in a post on X, Thursday, wrote: “This is unacceptable and will not stand.”
X users have urged him to fight for the victims, describing the punishment as injustice and oppression.
