Governor Abba Kabir Immortalizes 22 Athletes Who Died In Tragic Accident
The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has immortalized the 22 Athletes that died in a tragic accident in their way back to Kano from National Sports Festival held in May 2025.
Governor Abba Kabir, said they made Kano people proud and they should be remembered forever.
In a statement issued by Mustapha Muhammad, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, said the Kano State Sports Institute is now named after the 22 Athletes and should be Kano State 22 Athletes Sports Institute.
The statement further said, the Kano State Sports Commission would be named as Kano State 22 Athletes Sports Commission.
Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, made this known during a courtesy visit by the team of First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mrs. Remi Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who donated One Hundred and Ten Million naira (N 110, 000, 000) to the families of the 22 Athletes who died in a tragic accident just 5 kilometers away from Kano.
The governor said they are heroes who fought for the successes of Kano in the National Sports Festival.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, states that government will take care of their children’s education and their wives be engaged in government empowerment schemes.
Furthermore, those with no wives, their parents should be considered in the empowerment drive.
