Kano State Government Donates N1M To Families Of Dead Athletes, Officials

Kano State Government has announced a donation of one million naira to each of the families of twenty-two of the Kano state contingents who lost their lives on their way home from the just concluded National Sports Festival held in Abeokuta, Ogun state.

The State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam, who made this known after taking briefs from the officials.

He also announced a donation of food items to the bereaved families as support for the immediate burial of the deceased.

The Deputy Governor also visited the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where seven injured athletes are currently receiving medical treatment. He sympathized with the survivors and assured them of the government’s commitment to their full recovery.

Yusuf, through his deputy, directed the immediate release of funds to support both the deceased families and the injured, emphasizing the need for a compassionate and coordinated response.

“On behalf of His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the people of Kano State, we extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. May Allah forgive their shortcomings and grant them Jannatul Firdaus,” Gwarzo prayed.

As families prepare for the burial rites, the state government reiterated its commitment to standing by them—not just in this moment of grief, but through the long road to healing and recovery.
