Ogwashi-Uku Poly: Non-Academic Staff, NASU, SSANIP Reject ASUP’s Two-Week Warning Strike

The leadership of the Non-Academic Staff Unions at Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku — comprising NASU and SSANIP — has distanced itself from the ongoing strike action declared by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP).

In a joint statement signed by the Chairman of NASU and Joint Unions of Polytechnics, Comrade Andrew Ayewumi, and the Chairman of SSANIP and Secretary of the Joint Polytechnics, Comrade Emeke Owabor Godchoice, the unions described ASUP’s strike as unnecessary and not reflective of the collective interest of staff members of the institution.

The statement urged the general public to disregard the two-week strike declared by ASUP, noting that it does not represent the position or concerns of the non-academic staff.

Comrades Ayewumi and Owabor emphasized that NASU and SSANIP believe in dialogue and peaceful resolution of disputes rather than actions capable of disrupting the smooth running of academic and administrative activities at the Polytechnic.

Consequently, the unions have directed all their members to continue performing their lawful duties to ensure that academic and administrative operations within the institution proceed without interruption.

They further clarified that the decision by ASUP, Ogwashi-Uku Chapter, to embark on a strike was not a collective decision involving all unions within the institution, and therefore, NASU and SSANIP should not be associated with or seen as part of the action.

According to the statement, the Non-Academic Staff Unions have no unresolved issues with the management or Governing Council of the Polytechnic. The unions reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and supporting dialogue as the best approach to addressing any future concerns.
