Earlier today, the Chairperson of Ukwuani Local Government Council, Barr. Mrs. Ajede Betty Chineye, flagged off the Ukwuani Girl Child Skills Acquisition Programme as part of the activities marking the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child.
In her keynote address, Barr. Mrs. Ajede thanked Her Excellency, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, the Wife of the Delta State Governor, for her strategic and continued investments in women, and particularly in the girl child across the State.
She also expressed her appreciation to the Executive Chairman of Ukwuani Local Government, Hon. (Barr.) C.S Possible Ajede, for prioritizing the empowerment of the Ukwuani Girl Child through skill acquisition, an objective she noted has long been embedded in the DO MORE AGENDA Human Capital Development and Empowerment for Sustainable Development Goals.
In her address, the Ukwuani First Lady highlighted that the theme of this year’s International Day of the Girl Child: “The Girl I Am, the Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis.”
She noted that the theme not only reflects the identity of the girl child but also her potential – what she is capable of becoming and achieving, even in the most difficult times.
According to her, it is both instructive and inspiring to recognize that, across the world, girls have demonstrated incredible courage and leadership – from standing up for education and fighting for equality, to protecting their communities during conflict and speaking out against injustice.
Mrs. Ajede also charged the Ukwuani Girl Child to make the most of the skills acquisition programme to acquire viable skills, get empowered, and become self-reliant.
