State Government Begins Institutional Needs Evaluation At Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara

The Education Consultant to the Delta State Government, Prof. Hope Eghagha, in an effort to strengthen the standard of education and advance the development agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, has embarked on a Needs Assessment Tour of the Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara. The visit is part of a statewide assessment initiative aimed at identifying the infrastructural and academic needs of tertiary institutions in Delta State.

Speaking during the one-day official visit, Prof. Eghagha explained that his mission was to conduct an on-the-spot assessment in line with the directive of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to ensure that the state government’s interventions are properly targeted. According to him, the governor is keen on understanding the peculiar challenges facing each institution across the state.

“I am here today on a needs assessment tour to determine what this institution requires for growth and development,” Eghagha said. “His Excellency wants a clear picture of the realities on ground, and my duty is to listen to management, staff, and students in order to compile a comprehensive report. We are doing this for all state-owned institutions to ensure fairness and inclusiveness.”

The education consultant emphasized that his visit was purely fact-finding and not evaluative. “I came here to listen, not to pass judgment,” he stated. “After this visit, I will prepare a report for His Excellency, highlighting the institution’s key needs. We recognize that there are many institutions with varying challenges, but we will address them one after the other.”

Prof. Eghagha also commended the Delta State Government for its remarkable investment in the education sector, describing Delta as “a state with the highest number of tertiary institutions in the country.” He assured that these achievements would form part of his recommendations to further enhance educational development in the state.

Responding, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof. Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a positive step toward the institution’s advancement. “Prof. Eghagha’s visit is well appreciated and signifies good things to come,” the Rector said. “His interaction with management and staff was very engaging, and we believe it will lead to meaningful interventions for the Polytechnic.”

Present at the event were Chief Andrew Orugbo, Chairman of the Governing Council of the Polytechnic, principal officers of the institution, and other key stakeholders. Prof. Eghagha, during his interactive session, assured that the government would respond positively to the various requests and concerns raised, reaffirming that education remains a top priority for Governor Oborevwori’s administration.
