DELSU Hosts 24th SECAN Conference, Organisers Praise VC

Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, recently played host to the 24th Scientific Conference of the Society of Experimental and Clinical Anatomists of Nigeria (SECAN), drawing participants from across the country.
The conference brought together academics, researchers, and medical professionals to deliberate on emerging trends, innovations, and challenges in the field of anatomy and clinical sciences.
Vice Chancellor of DELSU, Abraka, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba,, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Edmund Atakpo, declared the conference open.
In his speech, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Dr Santos Ehebha, appreciated Professor Asagba, for accepting to be the chief host of the conference.
He also thanked the National President of SECAN, Professor Emmanuel Esom and his team for their support towards hosting the 24th SECAN conference.
He further stated that the theme of the conference;‘ Integrative Anatomy, Merging Experimental, Clinical and Digital Approaches’, was carefully chosen to reflect the reality of the present state of anatomy in Nigerian.
On his part, the National President of SECAN, Professor Emmanuel Esom, specially thanked Professor Asagba, for showing keen interest in SECAN in ways which cannot be taken for granted.
Professor Esom also commended the Provost of DELSU’s College of Health Science and immediate past president of SECAN, Professor Emmanuel Odokuma, for his immense contributions towards the success of hosting the conference.
The Conference later went into plenary and syndicate sessions where resource persons handled and moderated various aspects.
The conference was preceded by a courtesy call on Professor Asagba, by executive members of SECAN.

The SECAN conference held from Tuesday, March 24 to Friday, March 27, 2026 at the 750 Lecture Theatre A, Site III of DELSU.
Dignitaries present at the conference included DELSU Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Edmund Atakpo, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Hilary Ijeoma Owamah, Provost of College of Health Sciences, Professor Emmanuel Odokuma, Director of Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies (CES), Professor Onos Emoyan, and DELSU’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Henry Eseka.
Others were National President of SECAN, Professor Emmanuel Esom, Vice President of SECAN, Dr Zainab Bauchi, Secretary General of SECAN, Dr Ugochukwu Aguwa, Editor-in-Chief of JECA, (SECAN’s Journal), Professor Sunday Musu, Ex-President of SECAN, Professor Emma Obikili, and others.
The hosting of the conference further underscores DELSU’s growing reputation as a centre of academic excellence and research development in Nigeria.
