Benue Links Driver Arrested As 13 Passengers, Including UTME Candidates, Remain In Kidnappers’ Den
Benue Links Nigeria Limited has confirmed the arrest of one of its drivers following the abduction of several passengers, including Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates, along the Makurdi–Otukpo Road.
The company disclosed that the driver, who was involved in the unauthorized night trip, is currently in police custody as investigations into the incident continue.
According to the company’s Information Officer, Johnson Ehi Daniel, the bus was attacked on Wednesday night at Ikobi while transporting passengers on a journey that had not been approved by the management.
He revealed that the driver violated the company’s operational policy by embarking on the night trip without authorization, proper documentation, or any official record of the movement.
Out of the passengers abducted during the attack, two have reportedly escaped, while 13 others remain in captivity.
The General Manager of Benue Links Nigeria Limited, Alexander Aondohemba Fanafa, described the incident as painful and unfortunate, assuring the public that the company is working closely with security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims.
Meanwhile, the Benue State Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, is said to be leading coordinated efforts to secure the release of those still being held by the kidnappers.
