Delta: Police Issues Operational Directives, Intensifies Statewide Security Measures, Strengthens Emergency Response Lines

“The Delta State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has announced a series of proactive security measures following a comprehensive review of the security situation across the state, aimed at strengthening public safety, preventing crime, and ensuring a peaceful environment for all residents, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which mandates all Commands to intensify visibility policing, adopt intelligence-led operations, and reinforce community partnership as a strategy for effective crime prevention and control.”

This was contained in a statement on Thursday by SP. Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Asaba.

According to him, “in compliance with this directive, the Command has commenced massive deployment of personnel across all nine Area Commands, divisions, and other critical points within the State.”

Adding: “This includes intensified stop-and-search operations along major highways, entry and exit routes, and identified flashpoints, as well as sustained day and night visibility patrols and coordinated operations with sister security agencies.”

He continued: “Furthermore, in response to emerging security challenges, the Command has streamlined its operational priorities to ensure a focused and result-driven approach, encompassing the protection of lives and property, maintenance of law and order, prevention of unlawful gatherings, disruption of bandit enclaves and criminal networks, strengthened community engagement for intelligence gathering, and sustained intelligence-led raids on black spots and criminal hideouts.

“In furtherance of this, the Command is intensifying targeted operations to dismantle kidnapping and herdsmen-related criminal activities in key flashpoints, including Owa-Oyibu, Ogwashi-Uku power line axis, Okpanam, Ashaka, Ovwero in Ughelli North, Umunede, Igbodo, Idumusa, Ute, and other border communities across the State, to dislodge criminal elements, restore public confidence, and secure all entry and exit corridors within Delta State.”

The police spokesman also said that “the Commissioner of Police has also directed all Area Commanders to immediately convene stakeholders’ town hall meetings within their respective areas of responsibility, as part of efforts to strengthen community engagement, enhance intelligence gathering, and foster collaborative approaches to addressing security challenges across the State.”

The Command encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movement or security breach through the Control Room number: 08036684974, 08114895600, and 08025666914. Additionally, the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) lines: 0915570008, 09066575187, 09064308018 and 09011112311 (WHATSAPP) are available specifically for members of the public to report cases of police misconduct, and any form of rights violation. All reports will be treated with utmost confidentiality and acted upon promptly.

The Commissioner of Police has also reassured residents that the Command remains resolute in its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property, and urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing panic, while parents and guardians are advised to monitor the activities of their wards.

He reiterated that security is a collective responsibility and calls on residents to support the Police with credible and timely information, as community leaders, transport unions, and other stakeholders are enjoined to collaborate with the Command in enforcing these measures and maintaining public order.

“Officers have been adequately briefed to discharge their duties with professionalism, respect for human rights, and zero tolerance for misconduct,” the statement concluded.
