Efele Rolls Out Fish Farm Empowerment For Ijala, Ugbegungun Communities

…Says Epowerment Is Aimed At Uplifting Living Standards Of People

The Executive Director, Planning Research and Statistics, DESOPADEC, Pst. Nicholas Efele has formally handed over fish farms by DESOPADEC to the benefitting individuals from Ijala and Ugbegungun Communities in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State.

Addressing the benefitting members of the communities during the empowerment program which took place today Wednesday April 15th, 2026 in his office in Warri, Pst. Efele noted that the fish pond empowerment was aimed at creating jobs and uplifting the living standards of the people in the oil bearing communities of the mandate area.

“We decided to change some of our rules of engagement in terms of our empowerment. The community leadership nominated these individuals to be empowered by DESOPADEC, so these individuals shall own the fish farms and expand them,” he said.

Emphasizing on the advantages of the fish farm business, Pst. Efele said the fish farm business is a very lucrative one and urged them to make good use of the opportunity to establish themselves in the money spinning industry.

“We have noticed that fishing industry is no longer as it used to be as a result of river pollution and other environmental degradation affecting our communities. So a fish pond can bridge the gap,” he added.

Speaking further, he said the Commission shall from time to time, monitor the progress being made by the individuals to be sure the aim is not defeated and to grant more persons the opportunity to benefit.

In response, one of the beneficiaries, Mr. Toju Ebietan from Ijala community who spoke on behalf of the others, thanked Pst. Efele, the Management of DESOPADEC and the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for the laudable program, saying it will go a long way in ameliorating the plight of the people in the community, and affirmed that the opportunity shall never be taken for granted.

Those who benefitted from the two communities include Toju Ebietan; Toju Toser; Okoturoh Edwin; Omebeyinje Isaac; Omatsone Abugewa and Omebeyinje Kingsley.
