IGC Urges Ijaw Nation To Present New Candidate For Delta Assembly Seat
The Itsekiri Grassroots Coalition (IGC) has called on the Ijaw nation to consider presenting an alternative candidate for the Delta State House of Assembly seat representing Warri South West Local Government Area.
The position was made known following the coalition’s congress held on April 17 in Warri, where the National Coordinator, Prince Collins
Oritsetimeyin Edema, addressed members on issues concerning representation and peaceful coexistence in the area.
Edema noted that Warri South West remains a sensitive area with a long history of ethnic relations involving both Itsekiri and Ijaw communities, stressing the need for leadership that promotes unity, peace, and inclusive governance.
According to him, the area requires representatives who will prioritize harmony and strengthen trust among all groups to sustain peace and development.
“In a local government as sensitive as Warri South West, leadership must be guided by caution, inclusiveness, and a commitment to peace,” he stated.

He urged the Ijaw nation to consider projecting a candidate who can further strengthen cooperation and represent the collective interests of all ethnic groups in the local government.
Edema suggested that such a candidate could emerge from communities such as Ogbe-Ijoh or Isaba, noting that there are capable individuals within the Ijaw nation who can provide effective representation.
The coalition maintained that its position is not based on ethnic rivalry, but on the need to preserve peace, strengthen coexistence, and prevent tensions in the area.
The IGC also reaffirmed its commitment to justice, equity, and peaceful coexistence among all communities in Warri South West, while urging stakeholders across ethnic lines to place the long-term stability of the area above political interests.
