Senator Ibrahim Lamido Resigns From APC Over Internal Crisis In Sokoto

Senator Ibrahim Lamido, who represents Sokoto East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing internal party crisis, suspicion, and what he described as unfair leadership within the party in Sokoto State.

Lamido, who also serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Primary Health Care Development and Disease Control, made this known in a resignation letter dated April 22, 2026, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of the APC in Isa South, Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

In the letter, the lawmaker said his resignation takes immediate effect and explained that the decision was made after careful consideration.

According to him, the persistent internal wrangling, divisions, and unresolved disputes within the party have made it difficult for him to continue his membership in good conscience.

He stated that the lack of cohesion and what he termed unfair party leadership style had significantly hindered the progress and unity the party once stood for in the state.

“This decision has not been taken lightly. However, the ongoing internal party crisis, suspicion and unfair party leadership style within the party in Sokoto State has made it increasingly difficult for me to continue my membership in good conscience,” the letter read.

Lamido added that despite his decision to leave the party, he remains grateful for the opportunity to have served and contributed to the APC during his time as a member.

He also wished the party well in its efforts to overcome its present challenges and move forward in unity.

The resignation is expected to stir political reactions in Sokoto State, especially within the APC, as the party continues to navigate internal challenges ahead of future political contests.
