Woman Alleges Brutal Flogging By Police Officers At Ugborikoko Division, Seeks Justice
A young woman identified as Miss Janet has raised serious allegations of police brutality, claiming she was subjected to severe flogging allegedly on the orders of a female Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at the Ugborikoko Police Station in Warri, Delta State.
Speaking after meeting with a human rights advocate in Asaba, Janet tearfully recounted her ordeal, alleging that she was beaten with 40 strokes of the cane while in police custody. She also presented what she described as evidence of injuries sustained from the incident.
According to her, she is not the only victim, as she alleged that several other individuals have experienced similar treatment within the same division but are afraid to speak out due to fear of intimidation and reprisals.
She further alleged that some victims were reportedly offered money to remain silent and warned against reporting the incident, claiming that the DPO is “untouchable” and backed by influential connections.
The allegations have sparked renewed calls for accountability and an independent investigation into the conduct of officers at the division.

Human rights advocate Harrison Gwamnishu, who met with the victim in Asaba, called on the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to urgently investigate the claims and ensure justice is served if the allegations are confirmed.
He also urged other alleged victims to come forward, assuring them of protection and legal support without any financial burden.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force had yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
