Delta Police Arrest 23 Suspects, Recover Stolen HOWO Truck, Seize Illicit Drugs

The Delta State Police Command says it has arrested 23 suspects, recovered a stolen HOWO trailer truck, and seized large quantities of suspected illicit drugs in separate operations across the state.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the command said the operations were part of its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities in Delta State.

According to the statement, operatives of the Department of Operations, Buffalo Team, and Okpanam patrol teams, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, carried out raids on identified black spots, criminal hideouts, and brothels within the Okpanam axis and Asaba metropolis on May 22, 2026.

The police said the operation focused on areas around Hausa Market in Okpanam, where 22 male suspects were arrested.
Items recovered during the raid included 72 bottles of CSC Codeine, 11 packets of Tramadol, quantities of Swinol, Canadian Loud, and substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

The command disclosed that the suspects and exhibits had been transferred to the Special Enquiry Unit (SEU) for profiling and further investigation, adding that those found culpable would be prosecuted.

In another operation, operatives of Operation Safe Delta reportedly recovered a stolen HOWO trailer truck with registration number KK/192 XA in Ifite-Awka, Anambra State, following a petition alleging conspiracy, stealing, and truck snatching.

Police said the recovered vehicle had been towed to Asaba, while efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects connected to the case.

Meanwhile, operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) in Warri intercepted a tricycle during a stop-and-search operation along Esisi Road on May 22.

A search of the tricycle reportedly led to the recovery of 13 nylon bags containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

The police said a 57-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the exhibit, while investigations were ongoing to determine the source and intended destination of the drugs.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, urged residents to continue supporting the police with credible information, assuring that suspects found culpable would be brought to justice.
