DESOPADEC Takes “School Is No Scam” Campaign To Otujeremi Secondary School

The monthly campaign of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, against social vices anchored by Community Development and Public Enlightenment Department, continued today Tuesday May 26, 2026 at Otu-Jeremi Secondary School, Otu-Jeremi, Headquarters of Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Addressing the students, the Head of Department, Community Development and Public Enlightenment, Mrs. Chinenye Ezonfade, who was ably represented by Mrs. Etume Okeoghene , Divisional Head, Public Enlightenment, noted that the Commission is poised to continue its laudable campaign to dis- abuse the minds of students and youth in its mandate areas against the school is a scam notion.

“The Commission’s intervention is clear because we care and our purpose and intention is to safeguard the future of our youth in the direction of “School is no Scam,” she said.

Speaking further, she commended the Board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, ably led by the Chairman, Chief John Obukokwho Nani and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Chief Festus Ochonogor and the entire Board Members for their support in carrying out the sensitization campaign in the Commission’s mandate areas.

She thus, encouraged the participants to be ambassadors of their various schools by echoing the campaign amongst their peers wherever they go.

Earlier, the Principal of Otu-Jeremi Secondary School, Mrs. Obokeno Emily had welcomed the DESOPADEC team, thanking them and commending the Board of DESOPADEC for the initiative.

“I want to thank you and the Board of DESOPADEC for this initiative. It is timely, knowing well the social vices and moral decadence ravaging the society. It is a wake up call to save our youth from this wrong notion of “School is a Scam,” she said.

Speaking further, she urged all relevant agencies, government and non governmental bodies to take a cue from what the Commission is doing in this direction.

The ceremony featured debate between students from Otu-Jeremi Secondary School and Igwreka Technical College, Otu-Jeremi on the topic, “School is no Scam.”

The fiercely and robustly competitive debate was won by Miss Success Onojode of Otu-Jeremi Secondary School. Miss Emmanuella Eloho came second, while consolatory prices were given to other participants from Igwreka Technical College, namely Tekevwe John Oghene, Jessica Onovughe and Anna Oghenekome.

Other resource persons include Mr. James Adjevabor and Honeywell Eburajolo of Department of Community Development and Public Enlightenment CD&PE, who spoke extensively on the advantages and disadvantages of “School is a Scam” notion and the effect of Cultism, Drug Abuse and use of substance by youth in our society. They also urged the students to be of good behavior and use the opportunity to equip themselves against any form of social vices in the society.

The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of gift items comprising school bags and note books to the various contestants.

Amongst those in attendance were Mrs. Frances Onduku, Divisional Head, Culture And Tourism; Mr. Christopher Utuama, Otu-Jeremi Area office Coordinator; Mrs. Ejovi Patience, Vice Principal, Otu-Jeremi Secondary School amongst others.
