Prof. Ben Nwanne Excited As DELSU Media Faculty Produces First Set Of PhD Graduates
A Professor of Mass Communication at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Prof. Ben Nwanne, has expressed excitement over the successful graduation of the first set of PhD candidates from the newly created Faculty of Media and Communication Studies.
Speaking with Oasis Magazine during the university’s 18th convocation ceremony on Saturday, he described the development as a major milestone for the faculty and a sign of steady academic growth within the institution.
According to him, the achievement reflects hard work, commitment, and dedication from both staff and students involved in the doctoral programme.
“The faculty has just produced its first set of PhDs. I have been lucky to be part of it,” he said.

Prof. Nwanne specifically commended two of the graduating doctoral candidates, Dr Mrs Maureen Ugbome and Dr Mrs Loveth Okowa -Nwaebi, describing them as disciplined and hardworking scholars who remained focused throughout their academic journey.
“They are very hard-working, very committed people, and we believe they will contribute positively to society,” he added.
He encouraged the new PhD holders to continue striving for excellence, noting that academic attainment comes with greater responsibility.
“As you know, the reward for hard work is more hard work. You cannot say because you now have a PhD that you will rest,” he said.
On her part, one of the graduates, Dr. Ugbome, expressed deep joy over the milestone, describing it as the fulfilment of a long-awaited goal.
“I don’t have words to express how happy I am right now. It’s something I’ve looked forward to, and finally it is here. I’m very excited,” she said.
The ceremony formed part of the activities marking the 18th convocation of Delta State University, Abraka.
