Democracy Day: Ajede Reaffirms Commitment To Security, Inclusive Governance in Ukwuani

The Executive Chairman of Ukwuani Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. C.S. Possible Ajede (PhD), has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, describing security as a fundamental responsibility of government and a key pillar of democratic governance.

In a Democracy Day message to commemorate June 12, Ajede said the annual celebration serves as a reminder of Nigeria’s return to civilian rule and the sacrifices made by countless Nigerians who fought for democratic freedoms and representative government.

He noted that while the nation celebrates 27 years of uninterrupted democracy, security challenges remain a major concern and require sustained efforts from government, security agencies, and citizens.

According to the council chairman, his administration will continue to work closely with security agencies to ensure the safety of residents and protect Ukwuani communities from criminal elements seeking to disrupt peace and stability.

Ajede urged residents to remain vigilant and support security efforts by providing timely and useful information to relevant authorities, stressing that effective security depends on cooperation between the people and law enforcement agencies.

“The primary purpose of democracy is for those entrusted with leadership to protect lives and property. We remain committed to working with security agencies to ensure Ukwuani remains safe and secure,” he said.

The chairman also called on governments at all levels to prioritize the delivery of democratic dividends through reforms and investments in critical sectors, including education, healthcare, electricity, infrastructure, and security.

While acknowledging the progress made since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule, he said current challenges underscore the need for more inclusive governance and policies that directly improve the lives of citizens.

Ajede further paid tribute to the people of Ukwuani and the wider Ndokwa nation for their contributions to Nigeria’s democratic struggle, assuring that his administration remains committed to fulfilling its promises under the “Do More Agenda.”

He pledged to continue engaging residents through dialogue and consultations aimed at advancing development and addressing the needs of the people.

“Today we honour the sacrifices of those who fought for our democracy. On this Democracy Day, we remember and appreciate their steadfast determination that brought us to where we are today. It is our duty to preserve their legacy by delivering the dividends of democracy, and I wholeheartedly assure the people of Ukwuani of my administration’s full commitment,” Ajede stated.

He called on residents to remain united and committed to building a better Ukwuani, a stronger Delta State, and a more prosperous Nigeria.
