Dickson Meets Kwankwaso, Says Kwankwasiyya, Obidient Movements Key Partners

Senator Henry Seriake Dickson on Tuesday hosted Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and senior officials of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at his residence in what he described as part of ongoing mediation efforts aimed at strengthening unity within the party.

The meeting, which also had members of the National Working Committee (NWC) in attendance, focused on resolving internal disagreements within the party’s Kano State structure and ensuring coordination between party stakeholders and its Vice Presidential candidate.

Dickson, in a statement on Tuesday night, said the engagement forms part of wider reconciliation efforts aimed at addressing emerging tensions within the party as it consolidates its position as a leading opposition movement in the country.

He noted that internal disagreements are a natural feature of growing political organisations, stressing that the NDC relies on dialogue, consultation, and reconciliation to manage such issues.

“The NDC is fast emerging as the leading opposition party in Nigeria, and like every growing political movement, disagreements and clashes of interest are inevitable. We manage these through dialogue, consultation, and reconciliation,” he said.

He added that similar interventions have been ongoing across the country in recent months to ensure unity and stability within party structures.

The Bayelsa senator also dismissed claims of candidate imposition, insisting that the party has consistently allowed democratic processes to determine outcomes across states, including his home state.

“At no time have we imposed candidates on any state, not even in my home state of Bayelsa. We have consistently allowed democratic processes to play themselves out, despite the imperfections and difficulties that naturally arise,” he said.

Dickson expressed optimism that discussions with Kwankwaso would strengthen cooperation and deepen unity within the party ahead of future political engagements.

He also highlighted his long-standing political relationship with Kwankwaso, noting that both have maintained close ties since their days as governors in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with continued consultations on national issues.

The meeting also reviewed efforts to integrate major support groups, including the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the Obidient Movement, into the party’s structure to enhance mobilisation and coordination.

According to him, “The Kwankwasiyya Movement, the Obidient Movement and other support groups remain valuable mobilisation networks.”

Dickson reaffirmed that the NDC remains open to all stakeholders, describing it as a growing political institution committed to discipline, inclusiveness, and internal democracy.
