Kidnappers Abduct Native Doctor’s Wife, Collect N40M Ransom In Delta

The wife of a native doctor, popularly known as EkpaMalion, has regained her freedom after spending days in captivity following her abduction by suspected kidnappers in Umunede, Delta State.

According to a Facebook post by Harrison Gwamnishu, Director of SafeCity, the victim was kidnapped last week and held by her captors until a ransom of ₦40 million was allegedly paid for her release.

She was eventually freed on May 31, 2026, behind Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, he said.

Gwamnishu stated that the woman reportedly trekked from Umunede to Ogwashi-Uku after regaining her freedom.

Commenting on the incident, the SafeCity Director said the case highlights the fact that criminality does not respect status, influence, wealth or spirituality.

He noted that while spiritual beliefs may provide comfort, faith and resilience, they cannot substitute for practical security measures.

Gwamnishu stressed that combating kidnapping requires intelligence gathering, surveillance, tracking capabilities, modern technology, effective policing and strong cooperation between security agencies and local communities.

According to him, the fight against kidnappers can only be won by matching their operations with superior technology and coordinated security efforts.
