2027: Only Ogboru Can Offer True Change Delta Wants, Not Another 27 Years Of Recycled Governance — ADC Publicity Sec
The Delta State Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr. Fred Akpewe, has said the party’s 2027 governorship candidate, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, possesses the capacity to deliver the change Deltans have long desired.
Akpewe made the assertion while speaking with journalists in Asaba, arguing that the state has witnessed 27 years of governance by successive administrations from the same political family without the level of transformation expected by the people.
According to him, the 2027 governorship election offers Deltans another opportunity to choose between maintaining the status quo and embracing a new direction that prioritises development and good governance.
He maintained that Ogboru remains the most credible alternative, describing him as a resilient leader who has consistently demonstrated commitment to the progress of Delta State despite contesting several governorship elections.
Akpewe noted that Ogboru has remained a prominent figure in the state’s political landscape for over two decades, earning the respect of many supporters who fondly refer to him as “The People’s General” because of his close relationship with ordinary citizens.
He said beyond politics, Ogboru’s achievements as a successful entrepreneur have equipped him with practical experience in business management, job creation and wealth generation, qualities he believes are essential for effective governance.
The ADC spokesman stressed that governments can no longer rely solely on monthly federal allocations, adding that Delta State requires a leader with the vision to attract investments, stimulate economic growth and expand opportunities for the people.
He observed that although Delta State is richly endowed with oil and gas resources, fertile agricultural land and a vibrant youth population, many communities are still grappling with unemployment, inadequate infrastructure and slow industrial development.
According to Akpewe, these challenges have strengthened public demand for leadership that will promote transparency, innovation, economic diversification and sustainable development across the state.
He said the ADC believes an Ogboru administration would place greater emphasis on industrialisation, private sector partnerships, infrastructure development, prudent management of public resources and employment generation.
Akpewe further argued that Ogboru’s years of political experience have given him a deep understanding of Delta State’s diverse communities, governance challenges and the aspirations of its people.
He, however, acknowledged that the decision on who becomes the next governor ultimately rests with the electorate, urging voters to carefully assess the competence, vision and track record of all candidates ahead of the 2027 election.
The ADC spokesman encouraged Deltans to look beyond party affiliations and political sentiments when making their choice, insisting that leadership should be based on capacity and commitment to public service.
He added that regardless of differing political opinions, Ogboru has remained a formidable force in Delta politics, with his continued relevance reflecting his enduring influence and acceptance among many residents.
Akpewe expressed confidence that the 2027 governorship election would provide Deltans with an opportunity to embrace what he described as a fresh direction under the leadership of Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru.
