Delta 2027: Ogboru’s Political Resilience Puts Him At Heart Of Change Agenda — ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Delta State has described Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru’s political resilience as a major factor behind his continued relevance ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Fred Akpewe, said Ogboru’s decision to remain active in Delta politics despite several electoral setbacks has strengthened his image among supporters as a politician committed to political change.

Akpewe said Delta’s political history over the past decades had been dominated by an established political structure, despite changes in personalities, alliances and party arrangements.

He argued that Ogboru had consistently positioned himself outside that establishment, giving voters an alternative whenever governorship elections were held.

According to him, Ogboru’s political journey has been marked by persistence rather than convenience.

“He has faced defeats, political disappointments and legal challenges, yet he has continued to participate in the democratic process,” Akpewe said.

The ADC spokesman said such perseverance has become one of the defining features of Ogboru’s political career and a major reason why his supporters continue to identify with his political project.

He explained that the 2027 governorship election is being viewed by Ogboru’s supporters as an opportunity to break from what they regard as decades of political continuity and begin a new chapter for the state.

Akpewe said the debate should, however, go beyond political personalities and focus on the quality of governance Deltans expect from the next administration.

He identified employment creation, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, industrial development and accountability in the use of public funds as key areas requiring attention.

He further said Ogboru’s extensive political engagement across Delta had enabled him to understand the concerns of different communities and constituencies.

Although acknowledging that voters would ultimately determine the winner of the 2027 election, Akpewe said the ADC believes Ogboru represents a credible alternative for Deltans seeking a departure from the established political order.

He added that the former governorship contender’s political history would remain significant irrespective of the outcome of the next election.

“For us, 2027 is an opportunity to turn persistence into service and political experience into a new governance direction for Delta State,” Akpewe said.
