Court Of Appeal Affirms HRM Obi Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo II As Rightful Obi Of Ogwashi-Uku

ASABA — The Court of Appeal has affirmed His Royal Majesty, Obi (Dr.) Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo II, as the lawful Obi of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, dismissing an appeal filed by Prince Nathan Okonjo challenging the monarch’s right to the throne.

The judgment, delivered on July 15, 2026, in Appeal No. CA/AS/49/2023: Prince Nathan Okonjo v. HRM Obi Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo II & Ors., dismissed the appeal in its entirety, thereby reaffirming the legitimacy of Obi Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo II as the rightful occupant of the revered traditional stool.

In a statement issued by the Palace of the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, the ruling was described as another clear judicial affirmation of the monarch’s lawful status as the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku.

The Palace expressed profound appreciation to its legal team, led by Chief Chike Onyemenam, SAN, and Barrister Chris Chukwuka Ebube, for what it described as their diligent representation in securing the legal victory.

It also thanked the people of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom for their unwavering prayers, support and confidence in the traditional institution throughout the legal proceedings.
