Delta State: CDHR Moves To Seal Up Fuel Stations Selling Above N145/Litre
The Delta State Chairman, Committee for Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, Comr. Prince Taiga, has threatened to seal up filling stations in the state that refuse to revert to the old pump price of N145 per litre.
According to him, this decision to seal up erring fuel stations had the backing of the House of Reps Member, representing Ondo East/West, and Chairman, House Committee on Petroleum Resources, Hon. Joseph Akinlaja.
Speaking to Oasis Magazine (OM) during an exclusive online interview, Taiga added that the said filling stations had 48 hours to comply or risk sealing by DPR.
He opined that the fuel hike was an arrangement to frustrate the APC-led government.
His words: “CDHR have been silently fighting the fuel hike without taking it to press. On the 22nd of December, 2017, I shut down one Matrix Filling Station, Otokutu at about 7 p.m. They were selling at N220. Now, we have decided to fight it openly since the DPR have failed in their duties of checkmating this hike.
“Those fuel stations that purchased their products at high prices should sell at N145. They have already made profits from selling on the high side before now. Enough is enough.”
“Henceforth, we will seal their fuel stations and drag them to court for extortion and violation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Law,” he stressed.
He called on the Police, SSS and other security agencies to join forces to correct the abnormality of the fuel hike.
At the time of filing this report, Frank Chris Filling Station, Otokutu has been sealed by Taiga for selling at N220, although the metre read N145.
