APC Bans Pressure Groups In The Party, As Delta APC Plans Crisis Free Primaries
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State is poised to give its gubernatorial ticket to a preferred aspirant, who will emerge rancour free on or before March, 2018.
A leader of the party who spoke to our reporter under conditions of anonymity noted that an enlarged party’s leadership in the state would meet soon to facilitate the emergence of the preferred candidate, who the party would project to attempt to unseat Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa from Dennis Osadebe House, Asaba, the state’s capital city.
This was an offshoot of a meeting held at the country home of Olorugun O’tega Emerhor, the leader of the party (APC) in the state, on Sunday, 11th February, 2018, at Evwreni in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.
Another outcome of the meeting at Evwreni was the formation of APC Elders Council in the state and admission of the report of the 23-man-committee set-up to search for the preferred candidate, as well as come up with a zoning formula for the party.
Dignitaries of the party who attended the meeting include; Prof. Pat Utomi; Rt. Hon. Engr. Barrister Victor Ochei; Chief Barr. Fred Olokor, the coordinator of Mainstream Delta APC (MDA); and Dr. Iyke Odikpor, Delta APC Director of Research.
Others include the entire state Exco members, while the state chairman of the party was represented by Chief Edemor.
Other leaders present were Barr. Omasan, the state Women leader; Barr. Mrs. Awele Van Nwoko; Barr. Prosper Esegbue; Mr. Camiya Moses; Barr. Nelson Enumah; all Local Government Area coordinators and secretaries of MDA and three (3) representatives of the elders council, Dr. Wilson Omene, former Chairman, Ethiope West Local Government Area, and the Chairman of the 23-man-committee on the preferred aspirant and zoning formula.
However, Oasis Magazine has been reliably informed that the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party has placed a blanket of ban on the activities of pressure groups within its fold and all existing pressure organizations like the mainstream Delta APC, MDA, and APC Action Group, etc are therefore outlawed till further notice.
This development may be as a result of the on-going reconciliation efforts of the party, following the appointment of the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, by President Mohammed Buhari to reconcile the party members ahead of the 2019 elections.
