DELSU Moves To Curb Indecent Dressing, Bans Dreadlocks, Bum Shorts, Others

The management of Delta State University, Abraka, has said that students of the institution must “ensure that they appear neat and descent every time they are on campus.”
The university authority through an official bulletin issued by the Information and Public Relations Division of the Vice Chancellor’s Office, dated: February 8, 2018, banned male students from wearing twisted hair, dreadlocks, ratty hair and artificial hair styles.
Continuing, wearing of any dress that exposes the chest region; unbuttoned/half buttoned shirts; use of tight/feature-exposing or transparent dresses and sleeveless short blouses; use of worn-out or tattered trousers/skirt (rugged jean); use of T-shirts with provocative messages such as ‘sexy’, ‘I love sex’, ‘make love not babies’ and wearing of bum shorts by female students outside their hostels were also outlawed.
Furthermore, wearing of sagging trousers, earrings, nose rings or perming and weaving of hair by male students; exposure of navel and nipples with rings; wearing of dark glasses and ear piece during lectures and wearing of transparent dresses by female students were also prohibited by the university.
The bulletin said: “Any student who contravenes the dress code will not be allowed into any of the university campuses, lecture halls and examination venues from Thursday, 8th February, 2018.
“Appropriate disciplinary action will also be taken against any student who violates the dress code.”
The management called on the Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments, Staff (teaching and non-teaching staff) and security operatives within the university to ensure strict compliance.
