2019: UPU Will Support Patriotic Urhobo Politicians Irrespective Of The Political Party They Belong To— Omene
The President General of Urhobo Progress Union, UPU (Worldwide), Chief Joe Omene, has said that UPU would support patriotic Urhobo sons vying for political offices in 2019, not minding the political party they belong to.
Chief Omene who spoke to Oasis Magazine (OM) during an exclusive interview in his residence in Mosogar, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, added that UPU does not belong to any political party and would not consider the political parties Urhobo politicians belong to before they throw their weights behind them.
He said: “Some think because the Taiga group has identified with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, then I should allow UPU to identify with All Progressives Congress, APC.
“There are patriotic, credible and honest Urhobo sons in APC, PDP and other parties who have Urhobo interest. In APC, there are also Urhobo people who want to sell the ticket and give it to someone that is not an Urhobo. So you see that it is not about the party, but the individual, and this time around we would consider antecedents not the party they are in to determine who we support.”
“Only Urhobo politicians that have continously supported Urhobo nation in time past would be supported by UPU,” he stressed, saying that the doors of UPU are also opened to politicians that want their support in the coming elections even though they are from other ethnic groups.
