Illegal/Prohibited Firearms: Delta Police Command Recovers 200 Guns, 3789 Live Cartridges, Others

The Delta State Police Command has said that a total of 200 firearms, 24 ammunitions, 3789 live cartridges, 8 expended cartridges and other illegal weapons have been recovered in pursuant of the directive of the Inspector General of Police to mop up illegal firearms in the hands of individuals and groups across the country.
Speaking during a press briefing today in Asaba, the Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Mustafa, said that “the arms and ammunition which the Command has mopped up and recovered since the 1st of March, 2018, was in compliance with the IGP’s directive.”
According to him, he made a passionate appeal requesting members of the public to surrender, through their area Commands and Divisional Police Stations, all illegal and prohibited firearms at their disposal to the Command within the period of 21 days with effect from 1st March, 2018.
The recovered arms and ammunition he disclosed, came from SCIID, Asaba; Sapele Division; Ogwashi-Uku Division; ‘A’ Division Warri; Warri Area Command; Ovwian Aladja Division; ‘B’ Division Warri and Ugborikoko Division, Effurun.
He said: “Numerous as the number of arms and ammunition so far recovered may seem, the Command does not intend to rest on its oars but rather will henceforth intensify efforts at mopping up any illegal or prohibited firearms within the state.
“All persons who have failed to take advantage of the 21 days of grace that ended on the 21st of March, 2018, which has now been extended, would have themselves to blame and therefore should be prepared to face the full weight of the law.”
