BREAKING: Court Remands Four Suspects Linked To Gun Recovered At Effurun Transport Park

A Delta State High Court sitting in Asaba has remanded four suspected members of an alleged gun-running syndicate in connection with the recovery of a Beretta pistol at a transport park in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area.

The suspects — Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, Clifford Boleyelefa, Amadi Princewill, and Amadi Felix Chibuike — were arraigned before the court following investigations by the Delta State Police Command into the illegal procurement and movement of firearms across state lines.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the suspects were arrested in separate intelligence-led operations conducted in Bayelsa and Imo states after investigations linked them to the firearm recovered at the transport park on April 26, 2026.

Following the conclusion of investigations, the police charged the suspects on a five-count charge bordering on unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, conspiracy, and alleged membership of a proscribed cult group.

The charges include unlawful possession of a firearm and a fabricated Beretta pistol, possession of four rounds of live 9mm ammunition, conspiracy to belong to an unlawful society, and membership of the proscribed Black Axe Confraternity.

The offences are said to contravene provisions of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, the Firearms Act, the Criminal Code Law of Delta State, and the state’s Prohibition and Prescription of Youth Associations and Organisations Law.

After hearing the matter, the court ordered that the four defendants be remanded in prison custody pending further proceedings.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating the proliferation of illegal firearms, cultism, and other violent crimes across the state.

He assured residents that the command would continue to pursue and prosecute criminal elements while intensifying efforts to ensure the safety and security of citizens.

The police added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects connected to the case who are still at large.
