Police Arrest Four, Foil Cult Activities In Delta, Recover Firearms, Drugs

The Delta State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on cultism and violent crimes, arresting four suspects and recovering firearms, ammunition, and illicit drugs in separate operations across the state.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Command disclosed that the operations were part of sustained intelligence-led policing efforts aimed at curbing criminal activities.

According to the statement, operatives of Delta Shield, while on surveillance patrol in Orerokpe, Okpe Local Government Area on April 11, 2026, intercepted a 32-year-old suspect, Peter Onajite.

Adding that a search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally made double-barrel cut-to-size pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, and sachets of suspected Tramadol.

The police said that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly confessed to being the leader of the Juris Confraternity, adding that he remains in police custody as investigations continue.

In a separate operation on April 12, 2026, police operatives attached to Ibusa Police Station foiled a suspected cult initiation following a tip-off. The operation, carried out along Jordan Road in Ibusa, led to the arrest of three suspects, including a female, while another suspect, identified as Chinedu Onyeama, is currently at large.

Items recovered from the scene include an English-made Beretta pistol with one round of live ammunition, three battle axes, a hammer, a cutlass, and thirty-nine firelighters.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism. He reiterated the Command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-driven operations and warned that the police would continue to clamp down on cult-related activities and other forms of violent crime.

The Command assured residents of its commitment to ensuring safety and security across the state.
