Delta Police Command Debunks Report On Kidnapped Officers

Delta Police Command has debunked reports by an online news medium, Daily Post, over a recent publication that said that a senior police officer and others were kidnapped by a kidnap gang in the state.

In a statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Andrew Aniamaka said: “The attention of the Delta State Police Command has been drawn to a story credited to one Owen Akenzua, in an online publication of the Daily Post of 18/10/2018, stating that a “Senior Police Officer, SP Mike Ndikwe attached to ‘B’ Division Police Station, Asaba” and two others were kidnapped by a “rampaging kidnap gang in Delta State.”

“The writer went further to state that the Command’s PPRO, DSP Aniamaka Andrew confirmed this.

“The Command wishes to inform the general public, especially Deltans that there is no iota of truth to the claims by the writer and that such claims could only have emanated from a very sick and devious mind seeking to, through deliberate misinformation and falsehood, cause incalculable damage to society.

“The Command notes that for the avoidance of doubt, that, at no time, was there any case of abduction of any Police Officer reported at ‘B’ Division, Asaba, either in the past or now, adding that no officer bears the name SP Mike Ndikwe serving in the Command.

He added: “There was no time the PPRO, DSP Aniamaka Andrew was questioned by the writer on issues bordering on kidnapping or abduction of the said officer or any other officer allegedly serving in the Command.”

While calling on the public to disregard Owen Akanzua’s write up as “simply a pack of lies tailored towards creating unnecessary panic and tension in the state,” Aniamaka called on the writer to within fourteen days tender in writing, an unreserved apology to the Command, and the public.

According to the statement, the Command may be compelled to seek redress by any legal means possible against the said journalist and the institution (Daily Post) he represents if he fails to do this.
