Oruarivie-Abraka Kingdom: We Want To Take Over The Security Of All DELSU Campuses In Abraka— PG
By Daniel Dafe
The President General of Oruarivie-Abraka Kingdom in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Emmanuel Idoghor, has said that the community is interested in taking over the security contracts of all the campuses of Delta State University, Abraka, in the town, adding that the Professor Victor Peretomode-led has failed to collaborate with the university’s host community in the areas of security, as he cited the Elozino murder case as one that could have been avoided.
Chief Idoghor said this while responding to questions from Oasis Magazine (OM) recently after playing a key role in the release of the Secretary General of Urhobo Progress Uniuon, UPU, Youth Wing, Comrade Efemena Umukoro, who was arrested by the Abraka Police Division over a petition written against him by the university authority.
According to sources, the arrest was related to the planned protest by the body to show their grievances over issues surrounding the death of Elozino Ogege, a 300 level student of Mass Communication.
The Urhobo socio-cultural group has also demanded that the security company of one of the suspects fingered in the murder of Elozino be disengaged from the university.
Idoghor wondered why the university has avoided hosting a meeting with the leaders of the community.
He said: “The VC must have an audience with the leaders of the community to enable us bare our minds on why we are not happy with him.”
According to him, the community was in support of the planned protest by Urhobo youths under the aegis of UPU, youth wing.
He added: “Comrade Umukoro is not fighting for himself, but for the community. That is why I am here to secure his release. I do not even know him.
“We will no more take any insults from the university. We do not want this bad treatment on us by VCs to continue. I am ready to go any length to change this narrative in DELSU.”
