Okowa Has Performed Excellently Well, Says Urhobo Students’ Leader
–Wants Governor To Make Students’ Welfare A Priority In His Second Term
By Dafe Rukevwe
The Speaker, National Union of Urhobo Students (NUUS), Worldwide, Comrade Prince Amrevwuwho Awhotu, a final year student of Delta State University, Abraka, in the Department of History and Internal Relations, has said that Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor, Delta State, performed excellently well during his first tenure and thus got re-elected to continue in his ‘prosperity agenda’ for all Deltans.
Comrade Awhotu who spoke to journalists during the 13th Convocation ceremony of DELSU, Abraka, appealed to the Governor to tackle issues of poor power supply to student communities outside DELSU campuses in Abraka.
He said: “Just like he did in his first term, we call on him to pay bursary to students and make the welfare of students a top priority including their security,” saying that outside the campus environment there is no light in most places where students reside. The government should ensure that there is power supply to them. He should mandate BEDC to see to it that students outside the campus enjoy electricity so they can be in safe condition.”
He added: “Students in DELSU and elsewhere are singing his praises. Sometime ago, we approached him about students bursary that since 2014 we have not been paid and in no distant time he paid, alongside DESOPADAC bursary.
Also responding to questions bordering on the administration of Professor Victor Peretomode, Vice-Chancellor, DELSU, Abraka, he said: “The VC has written his name on gold. New courses have been introduced into our curriculum like entrepreneurial courses. Now we are no more just going to be graduates with certificates, but one with sabificate, equipped with natural skills to stand out wherever we find ourselves and not running hectare skater looking for jobs.
“New infrastructures have been built in all our campuses in Oleh, Oghara and Asaba,” he noted.
