Emete: UPU Inaugurates Abuja Branch

The Female Youth Wing, Emete, Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Worldwide, yesterday, stepped up their operations with the inauguration of the Abuja branch of the association.

Speaking during the ceremony that held at Mosogar, Chief (Engr.) Joe Omene expressed joy that the Abuja chapter was birthed a short while after the inauguration of the female youth wing.

He said: “I have followed the activities of the female youth wing and I must say that they have performed beyond expectation within the short space of time when they were inaugurated.

“Emete was formed because the female folks of the UPU youth wing were oppressed and thus did not have a voice,” adding that “the female youth wing was an opportunity given to Urhobo ladies to showcase what they can offer to move Urhobo Nation forward.”

He also charged the ladies to use the platform to identify with prominent Urhobo sons and daughters, not just politicians.

According to him, it was a thing of joy to see that the said Abuja-based ladies decided to identify with UPU and Urhobo culture.

While commending the ladies, he urged others to priotise the interest of Urhobo.

He added: “Urhobo Nation now has two Senators. While we have Senator Ovie Omo-Agege from Delta State, who also is the Deputy Senate President (DSP), we also have a Senator in the Red Chamber from Bayelsa State. Agege has done well by ensuring that Urhobo indigenes are well positioned in various positions.”

Continuing, he said: “If not Buhari and Agege, Urhobo would not have gotten the DSP position,” as he opined that “Urhobo Nation will totally be free from bondage when Ogboru becomes governor.”

He called on the new branch to abide by the constitution of UPU.

On her part, the President of Emete, Efedede Onajite, during a media chat with journalists, commended Chief Omene for continually supporting the female folks and allowing their voices to be held in Urhobo land.

Speaking further, she said: “Our inauguration some months back has brought about Urhobo ladies from all states wanting to identify with the female youth wing to build Urhobo Nation and pursue the cause of the female girl child. We are getting calls from every state to also have theirs inaugurated. We just did that of Abuja chapter; Lagos State chapter will be done soon.

“The emergence of Emete in UPU is timely in this era of women emancipation and enlightenment. Ladies can now have a voice In Urhobo land, the political space, stand out strong and make Urhobo proud in every area of life.”

She urged the Abuja branch of the female youth wing to build the communities they come from and remember to project Urhobo tradition.

She added: “Remember that home is the best, build your communities and put all your strength resources and time to bring about Urhobo progress. The tide is changing for Urhobo and we cannot afford to allow Urhobo go down.”

Efedede commended all Urhobo sons and daughters that have just been appointed by the Buhari administration for supporting the idea of Emete in UPU.

Also, the Chairperson of the branch, Eloho Majemite Okwo, said she decided to identify with UPU because she wanted to use the platform to help other Urhobo ladies in the areas of education, employment, enlightenment and skilled empowerment.

“It’s a big task and I will do my best to make sure that our voices are heard in Nigeria,” she averred.

A member of the executive in the said chapter, Edore Yugbovwre, promised to work hard and connect with those on top to see the need to help the girl child in order to make them useful in the society and be able to represent ladies well in the society, rather than leaving them neglected.

Alongside the Chairperson and Yugbovwre, other members of the executive of the chapter present for the inauguration are Rosemary Jawadia, Ese Akpojotor, Ighosotu Okumagba and Oyoma Omoko.
