The Chairman of Ethiope East Local Government Council, Mrs Faith Majemite, has frowned at the disposal of refuse in the front of the Abraka Main Market.
The chairman made her displeasure known during a meeting she held with Abraka Market Committee and traders of the market at the council secretariat, Isiokolo, headquarters of the local government.
Majemite said that dumping refuse in front of the market was unethical and unacceptable behavior, saying that such practice did not tell well of the people in the market and was capable of putting them in bad light before visitors.
While appreciating the market committee for good works done in the past, she called on it to put a stop to the practice and ensure the market was kept clean at all times.
According to her, a clean market would not only encourage customers and visitors from far and near to patronize the traders but would also promote the healthy well-being of users of the market.
“The front of the market is the point of attention to the market in which one can conclusively tell about the general state of the market and its people,” she said.
In accordance with the directives from the council chairman, the Chairman of the Market Committee, Comrade Bayo Eyube, advised the traders to desist from dumping refuse/materials at the front of the market or face sanction.
Comrade Eyube advised the traders to adhere strictly to their usual way of disposing waste every Thursday and not littering the express road and front of the market.
He also stated that a close surveillance will be on ground hence forth to check mate whosoever will continue to indulge in such act.
The committee further appreciated the traders for adhering to the rules of closing and reopening the market for business at 7p.m and 6.am respectively.
